My Biography:

I started learning the mRudangam at the age of seven under shrI T. S. Nandakumar in Mumbai. Owing to the hands-on teaching approach of my guru, I had the privilege of accompanying senior artists of Mumbai, both as a ghaTam support to my guru and as the main mRudangam accompaniment, at a very young age. Eventually, I joined the Shanmukhananda Sangeeta Vidyalaya, Mumbai, for advanced training under guru Nandakumar.

Around this time, I won prizes in music competitions in Mumbai, such as in the sub-junior, junior, and senior level at Shanmukhananda Sabha and youth festivals like Mood Indigo at IIT-Bombay. I was featured as the lead mRudangam player for the tALa vAdya kachcherIs presented by shrI Nandakumar in Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore which were very well received. Our percussion presentation has been released by Gitaa Cassettes, Chennai, titled ``Jewels of Rhythm (I \& II)''. I also had the opportunity of accomapanying artistes such as Smt. R. Vedavalli, shrI T. N. Krishnan, Smt. T. R. Balamani and other senior and youth artistes.

Leaving for the United States of America for pursuing post graduate studies, I had numerous opportunities to provide accompaniment for bharatanATyam performances, for concerts and lecture demonstrations. Notable among them include a 4 day dance drama in Minneapolis titled ``vaLLI kalyANam'', accompaniment for Smt. T. Rukmini, and a discussion/demonstration on karNATik music with shrI Ravikiran. I also had successful collaboration with Jazz artiste Ben Schachter in Philadelphia.

Apart from this, I am an ardent fan of Indian classical music (both the karNATik and hindustAnI genres) and Jazz and take time to listen to a lot of music by the masters of the respective art forms.
